Was Tesla’s Investor Day 2023 a Massive Disappointment?
The much hyped up Tesla Investor day 2023 packed little punch during the ceremony. Elon Musk laid out his ‘master plan 3’ for a sustainable future, but was it enough to keep Tesla shareholder’s interested?
Tesla Investor Day 2023 Recap
The event started off with Elon Musk diving into his vision for the future of energy.
Despite occasionally stumbling on some words, he clearly laid out a practical plan to achieve a stable energy economy.
His hope is to accomplish this is by way of expanding battery storage. With more storage, there will be more reusable power for all electric modes of transport.
This vision can be achieved by a $10 trillion investment that will have zero insurmountable resource challenges.

For context, Elon is always three steps ahead of the general public. A lot of shareholders were clamoring to see the next offering in Tesla’s EV fleet.
But, in typical Musk fashion, he does it his way. And that’s a good thing. While it may not seem like it, Musk does have Tesla shareholders’ best interests in mind.
By expanding their battery storage and production, we can be closer to a mostly electric future.
It’s important to note that Musk did mention Rockets as being the only transportation mode that would likely need to rely on non-clean energy in the future.
Cybertruck Debut
Now, regarding Tesla’s new vehicle offering. The long-awaited Cybertruck is finally taking shape and it looks great.
However, the physical design has been known for some time. And it’s sleek metal exterior could go down as one of the most influential tech designs of all time.
Move aside, Jony Ive!

As we can see from the walkaround at Gigafactory Texas, the Cybertruck is Tesla’s best looking EV yet.
However, what we couldn’t see from the outside design, is the massive news Elon broke during Tesla Investor day.
The Cybertruck will come with 48V architecture. This means that copper usage will drop by roughly four times!

While everyone was looking for the shiny new product, Musk has stayed true to his engineering vision.
I liken this to some of Apple’s keynote presentations where consumers are expecting some massive new piece of technology, like when Steve Jobs introduced the original iPhone.
I would argue however, that Tesla is working on engineering far more important to mankind than Apple.
Still, shareholders were left guessing what Tesla’s future new EV offerings would be.
Future Tesla Fleet

We can infer from the above graphic that Tesla has plans for two new EV’s. One is rumored to be a cheaper version of its best-selling Model 3.
The other is unknown. However, from the image it appears to be a van.
My bet is Tesla’s new EV will be a competitor to the hyper-popular Mercedes Sprinter van that you see every YouTuber trekking across the US in.
No joke though, Mercedes sells roughly 30,000 sprinter vans each year!
So, in addition to the Cybertruck and the Tesla Semi, consumers can expect two new EV launches within the next few years.
Tesla Heat Pump
One more note here before I get to my final review.
While sharing his vision for a clean-energy future, Musk said “at some point, we might make a heat pump for our home.”
Wait, what? Did I hear that correctly? So in addition to Solar panels, Tesla might explore getting into the heat pump business.
This would be one of the most on-brand moves from Musk yet.

Soon, we’ll be driving Tesla cars, heating our houses with Tesla heat pumps and powering our homes with Tesla solar panels.
What’s next a Tesla phone?
Tesla Investor Day Review
Overall, I would rate the event 3/5 stars. It matched Elon’s typical theme of being smarter than thou and always planning for the future.
It did leave me with a growing appetite to know what’s next in the pipeline.
Disclaimer: I am a Tesla shareholder. I did not walk away from the event any more confident about the company than prior to tuning in.
Though, Musk seems clear and stable-headed with a clear vision of his EV giant.
I applaud him for sticking to his guns and I recognize as consumers we are constantly looking for the next ‘breakthrough’ product, which simply doesn’t exist every year.
While it won’t impact Tesla stock ($TSLA) in the near future, it looks like our $TSLA prediction for 2025 will hold up well.
